Check out what our Featured DJ is feeling at the moment:(Click here for past selections) DJ Elbow Greasy A self-proclaimed TRUPacOlogists, up-and-coming DJ Elbow Greasy writes: “In more ways than one, Tupac’s lyrics represented the pain and torment the African-American community was experiencing, yet simultaneously the music sampled for his cuts represented the beauty, splendor and soul of R&B artists popular on the left coast but maybe not so much (as Borat would say) on the East.” Think he’s from Cali?
Current NewsMy Dear Faithful – As is my M.O., it has been embarrassingly long since my last update. In fact, not only has it been forever since the site saw changes, I haven’t even sent an e-mail out since June! Now, that is unlike me . . . Thank you to everyone who has checked in over that time to see what I’ve been up to or to say congrats. Life is moving fast and has changed greatly, but I am still here and feverishly trying to plunge back into serving you all! However, the hiatus has caused some of you to forget me (what?!) or maybe wonder if I faded off into an early retirement. It also means that those of you who joined on since June probably don’t really know what being part of the Faithful is all about. SOOooo, now is as good a time as any to allow myself to RE-introduce . . . well, you know . . . - Papa V (What’s good, Neil?!)
ReDefinition
I’m a walking paradox: I like the Mets and the Yanks. I eat apples, but can’t stand apple juice; drown my fries in ketchup, but don’t like tomatoes. I don’t understand why people don’t write more letters, but rarely write them myself. My hands are warm in the winter. I have a Mac lap and a PC desk. I can be short-tempered, but long-winded. I like All-4-One, Hi-Five, Take 6, and After 7. I can read on a train, but not on a plane. And, I am a favorite of old women and little kids. Simple, no? I love Sam Cooke, Bob Marley, and Michael Jackson (still)…I’ve been a Tarheel fan since I can remember and believe Dean Smith is the greatest coach to ever live…My favorite colors are blue, and well, other blue…I eat oxtail like it’s going out of style, but my last meal on earth would definitely be a piping hot Four Brothers Pizza – without question, the best pizza in the world (“There’s no way you could possibly know that, Napoleon”)…I think fans are overcharged for sports, but if we’re willing to pay, then athletes are not overpaid…I also think some, not all, teachers are underpaid; there are a lot of teachers whose salaries fit them just fine…No device has assumed more importance in my life than my iPod, and shuffle is its most attractive function…New Zealand is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to, but I’d re-live the honeymoon in a second…As a kid, I fell asleep to “Soft Touch with Yvonne Mobley” every night…Haagen Dazs’ German Chocolate Cake ice cream was the dessert world’s equivalent of a one-hit wonder that got pulled in its prime…I didn’t wear jeans until I was a teenager…Re-zoning is the most deceptive ruse in the city; where I grew up was once Uptown…I wouldn’t call myself a dog person, but I love our Jazz…I’m a saver – I save money, save records, save receipts, and save every letter or card anyone sends me…Security guards and bouncers are most agreeable when they feel important…Bill Burr is my favorite comedian right now and Damon Wayans delivered my favorite routine of all time…90% of all music requests should be kept to oneself. In fact, I think DJ’s should be allowed to ask a question in return (“What did the five fingers say to the face?” comes to mind)…I believe in the quotation, “Friends are the family members we choose for ourselves”; which is why saying “my boys” doesn’t ever seem fitting…Fort Greene is the dopest neighborhood in the city; and, I’m so old school, “dopest” isn’t in my spell check anymore…Although I was glad he finally won it, that wasn’t Denzel’s first Oscar performance; and “Man On Fire” should have been his second (“I wish… I wish you had more time.”)…For some reason, I love watching silly sports movies like “The Rookie” and “Little Big League” – every time they’re on…I’ve never owned a jean jacket…I hate watching the news before I go to sleep…NASCAR and golf are not sports; they’re just hobbies…Crossing guards serve an important purpose, but they are not traffic cops…If it’s not Dahvid Levy or the Old-School @ Noon, I find myself listening more to CD101.9 just to avoid the repetitive sounds I can’t seem to distinguish from one another…I wear my jeans loose, my sweatshirts hooded, and my t-shirts ‘til they become dust rags…D’Brickashaw is probably the worst name I’ve ever heard, but I love saying it…I believe the Question Of The Week offers all of us an oft-needed distraction…And, I DJ because I love the rush of seeing others happy…That, and it beats having a day job. But, the most important thing you should know about me? On August 30, The Boss and I welcomed our first child into this world – a son. Justin was born @ 4:46AM, just in time for the after-party. Now just over two months old, he recognizes his parents, sings with me when I sing “Beyond The Sea,” and gives me the biggest smiles you have ever seen. Being around him revives your spirit for life . . . Quoting our friend Dianne: “It's L-O-V-E and you wonder if anyone else has ever possibly felt for their baby what you are feeling for your baby” . . . I could not have put it better. And now, you know me. |
